In the square dark space, the visitors are sitting in a circle. A luminous rod hangs from the centre of the ceiling at eye level. Boegel and Holtappels sit opposite each other in the circle, both under hypnosis. Boegel shines a flash-light into the face of each visitor and counts out loud the number of them. At the same time Holtappels inserts hyperdermic needles, one for each visitor, into a cushion, forming them into a circle. Then he removes seven needles, closing the circle with his arm, and inserts these seven needles into his arm. Boegel brings the public into a condition of trance. Boegel and Holtappels concentrate on a particular image, and transmit this image to the audience.
